"I have a passion for humor, knowledge, and meaning."
Gina Gilbert came to eastern Pennsylvania to visit her son when Covid 19 struck. Uncomfortable with returning to St. Luis Obispo, CA, she decided to relocate for the foreseeable future. Gina’s move is our good fortune! A prolific artist in many media, Gina’s work in textiles, especially as a quilter, inspires us with its creative use of vintage materials, childlike wonder, and gentle humor.
The three works currently on display through January at Seamless Sewing Arts Ltd, showcase her skill in combining textiles, including old drapery/upholstery fabrics, yarns and threads, and printed fabric. Combining several techniques - piecing, appliqué, hand and machine stitching, and her own drawing transfer method - results in rich layering that begs the viewer to come closer…and closer!
In addition to working with textiles, Gina also makes life casts, masks, puppets, clay sculpture and even body art using Henna. She is an acupuncturist, a Nia® Sensory Movement Instructor, a yogi, and a canine massage therapist. Gina graduated from McGill University in Montreal, Quebec and the Tri-State College of Acupuncture in NY.
The Seamless Gallery has dedicated space in our Phoenixville, PA shop, but quilts and projects are on exhibit throughout the store. We display quilts, crafts and projects by local makers, who are welcome to respond to Seamless's monthly call for work.
